Happy Mother's Day

Lemon Meringue Pie is the post I wrote for Mother's Day, but it is dated April 7th since that's when I started writing the piece. If you'd like to read about my mother's lemon meringue pie, click on the link to April's blogs on the right.

Happy Mother's Day, all!

Enjoy your pie.

Jill, I really enjoyed reading these memories. What a fine craft pie-making is, and mostly was, and what wonderful insights your mother's pie making offered. I thought the story about your Aunt Vera and the lipstick comment was fascinating. What drama for a child, what weight those words of Aunt Vera's held. And I really sympathized with you and your mother's insistence on grocery shopping herself--it was such a piece of her independence and her privilege to choose right until the end of her life. I think this could make a really wonderful, really tight essay. If you ever draft it again, I'd love to read it again. Mother and daughter interaction essays--you can't beat the power there.

Thanks, Kim. I actually have a much longer piece I'm working on about my mother's death...and life, really...I haven't added the lemon pie part yet, but I do have a section called "Lost in the Frozen Food Section" about our shopping expeditions. Finishing this essay is one of my writing projects for the summer.
